Wildlife Institute of India Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 50 Technical Assistant Posts under All India Tiger Estimation (AITE 2026)
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, has officially released a recruitment notification inviting online applications from eligible Indian nationals for the post of Technical Assistant under the prestigious All India Tiger Estimation (AITE 2026) Project. Overview
The All India Tiger Estimation (AITE) exercise is a nationwide scientific survey conducted periodically to assess tiger populations and habitat conditions across India. The project plays a crucial role in wildlife conservation planning and policy formulation. Technical Assistants recruited under this project will participate in extensive fieldwork, camera trap monitoring, data processing, tiger identification, habitat assessment, biodiversity surveys, GIS applications, and wildlife research activities.
Candidates possessing a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Science, Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Geoinformatics, Life Sciences, Agriculture, Forestry, or related disciplines are eligible to apply. Additionally, candidates holding a 3-year Diploma in Engineering from a recognized institution may also apply.
The selected candidates will receive a consolidated monthly remuneration of ₹27,000 along with House Rent Allowance (HRA). The upper age limit prescribed for the post is 50 years. Age relaxation benefits will be provided to reserved category candidates as per Government of India norms.
Candidates with prior experience in wildlife research, ecological field surveys, camera trapping, telemetry, GIS, remote sensing, biodiversity assessment, technical report preparation, and wildlife data analysis will be given preference during the selection process.
The recruitment process will consist of application screening and interviews. Shortlisting will be based on educational qualifications, percentage of marks, specialization relevance, work experience, and research achievements. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews.
Applicants are required to submit their applications through the online application portal only. No offline or printed application forms will be accepted. Candidates should keep scanned copies of all relevant documents ready before filling out the online application form. These include educational certificates, mark sheets, category certificates, work experience certificates, passport-size photographs, digital signatures, fee payment receipts, and other supporting documents.
The application process commenced on 16 June 2026 and will remain open until 30 June 2026. Interested candidates are advised to apply well before the closing date to avoid last-minute technical issues.
The role of Technical Assistant under the AITE project is highly field-oriented and offers valuable experience in wildlife monitoring and conservation science. Selected candidates will be involved in camera trap deployment, image processing, geo-tagging of wildlife data using CaTRAT software, identification of tigers and leopards through software-assisted and manual methods, habitat assessment, sign surveys, and line transect studies. This position provides practical exposure to modern wildlife research methodologies and conservation technologies.
Candidates belonging to the General Category must pay an application fee of ₹500. However, candidates from SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and Physically Challenged categories are exempted from the application fee and are required to pay only ₹100 as processing charges.
The Wildlife Institute of India has emphasized that incomplete applications will be rejected. Therefore, applicants must ensure that all documents are uploaded correctly and all information is entered accurately. Any discrepancy or false information detected during document verification may lead to cancellation of candidature.
The institute has also clarified that fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee an interview call. Applications will be screened thoroughly, and only the most suitable candidates will be shortlisted based on academic performance, specialization, and relevant experience.
