TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Recruitment 2026 – 821 Vacancies, Eligibility, Exam Date, Selection Process and Apply Online

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has released the official Combined Civil Services Examination–II (Group II and Group IIA Services) Notification 2026. The recruitment is being conducted through Notification No. 07/2026 dated 11 August 2026 for direct recruitment to various posts under Group II and Group IIA Services.

Applications are invited only through online mode. The recruitment includes a common Preliminary Examination followed by separate Main Examinations for Group II and Group IIA Services. The Preliminary Examination is only a screening test and its marks will not be counted for preparing the final merit list.

A total of 821 vacancies are notified, consisting of 41 vacancies under Group II Services and 780 vacancies under Group IIA Services. Candidates who satisfy the prescribed educational, age and other eligibility conditions can submit their applications through the official TNPSC examination portal.

The last date to submit the online application is 09 September 2026 up to 11:59 PM. The Preliminary Examination is scheduled to be conducted on 01 November 2026 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Group II Services

The official notification provides district-wise vacancy details for several Assistant and Senior Revenue Inspector posts. Therefore, candidates should check the complete notification before selecting posts and preferences.

TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates must satisfy the age, educational qualification, Tamil language and other conditions prescribed for the particular post.

Age Limit

The age limit is calculated as on 01 July 2026. The minimum and maximum age vary according to the post and category.

For many Group II and Group IIA posts, the minimum age is 18 years, while certain posts such as Probation Officer, Sub Registrar Grade-II and Executive Officer Grade III have different minimum-age requirements.

For several reserved categories, age concessions are available according to the applicable rules. In posts where the notification states “No maximum age limit”, candidates should note that the Commission defines this condition separately and candidates should not have completed 60 years as on the relevant date or at the time of selection/appointment.

Candidates should not rely only on the general age limit because individual posts have different requirements. For example, Probation Officer requires a minimum age of 22 years, while Sub Registrar Grade-II requires a minimum age of 20 years.

Educational Qualification

Educational qualification differs from post to post.

For many Group II and Group IIA posts, candidates must possess a degree from a University recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Examples include:

  • Assistant Inspector – Degree from a recognised university.
  • Junior Employment Officer – Degree from a recognised university.
  • Jailor – Degree from a recognised university.
  • Sub Registrar Grade-II – Degree, with preference for candidates possessing B.L.
  • Handloom Inspector – Degree from a recognised university.
  • Several Assistant posts – Degree from a recognised university.
  • Accountant – Degree, with specific posts requiring B.Com.
  • Junior Accountant – Degree in Commerce.
  • Assistant Section Officer – Specific degree/law qualifications depending on the post.
  • Assistant Section Officer-cum-Programmer – Master’s degree in Computer Application or Master’s degree in Science in Information Technology/Computer Science.

For certain posts, additional qualifications or technical qualifications are prescribed. Therefore, candidates should verify the qualification against the exact post code before applying.

The notification also states that candidates must possess the prescribed educational or technical qualification on the date of notification, i.e. 11 August 2026.

Knowledge of Tamil

Candidates should possess adequate knowledge of Tamil on the date of notification. This can generally be established through Tamil as a language in SSLC/HSC/Degree, studying the relevant course in Tamil medium, or passing the Second Class Language Test conducted by TNPSC.

TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Selection Process 2026

The selection process consists of:

  1. Common Preliminary Examination
  2. Separate Main Examination for Group II Services
  3. Separate Main Examination for Group IIA Services
  4. Onscreen Certificate Verification
  5. Physical Certificate Verification, wherever applicable
  6. Counselling and final selection

The Preliminary Examination is only a screening test. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by candidates who qualify for the Main Examination will not be counted for final ranking.

The Preliminary Examination is a common single-paper examination for both Group II and Group IIA Services.

Paper II of the Group IIA Main Examination is conducted through Computer Based Test.

Final Ranking

The final merit/ranking is prepared based on the marks secured in Paper II of the Main Examination. In case of a tie, higher qualification gets preference; if qualification is also the same, the older candidate gets preference, followed by the candidate whose application was submitted earlier.

For certificate verification and counselling, candidates are shortlisted according to the ratios specified by the Commission.

Application Fee

The Preliminary Examination fee is ₹100 and must be paid while submitting the online application unless the candidate claims a valid fee exemption.

Candidates shortlisted for the Main Examination who have not claimed fee exemption have to pay ₹150. Candidates shortlisted for both Group II and Group IIA Main Examinations have to pay ₹300.

The OTR registration fee is ₹150, and a successful One Time Registration remains valid for five years.

Fee payments must be made online through the prescribed payment methods. Offline payment through Demand Draft or Postal Order is not accepted.

How to Apply for TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Recruitment 2026

Candidates should follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit the TNPSC Examination Portal

Go to the official online application website tnpscexams.in.

Step 2: Complete One Time Registration

Candidates who do not already have a valid OTR must register first. OTR requires personal, educational and other basic information. A valid email ID and mobile number are mandatory.

Step 3: Keep Photograph and Signature Ready

The Commission requires a recent photograph and signature in the prescribed digital format. The OTR photograph and signature requirements include specified file sizes and resolution.

For the examination application, the photograph should be taken on or after the notification date and must meet the prescribed dimensions and format. Candidates should not upload selfies, photocopies or unsuitable photographs.

Step 4: Select the Group II/IIA Recruitment

Login to the candidate dashboard and select the Combined Civil Services Examination-II notification.

Step 5: Enter Application Details

Fill in personal information, educational qualifications, category, post preferences, examination centre preferences and other required information carefully.

Step 6: Upload Required Details/Documents

Candidates shortlisted for Onscreen Certificate Verification will have to upload supporting documents for the claims made in the application.

Step 7: Pay the Examination Fee

Pay the applicable Preliminary Examination fee online through the available payment options.

Step 8: Preview and Submit

Check the application carefully before final submission. The Commission considers an application submitted only after the candidate finally clicks the Submit option; merely viewing the preview does not mean that the application has been submitted.

Step 9: Save the Application

After successful submission, candidates should download or print the application details and keep the Application Number/ID safely for future reference.

The Application Correction Window will remain open for three days from 13 September to 15 September 2026. No modification will be permitted after the correction-window closing time.

Examination Centres

Candidates can choose two examination centres for the Preliminary Examination, and one of those preferences will be allotted subject to the Commission’s arrangements. Candidates with benchmark disabilities are permitted to choose one centre. Requests for changing the allotted centre are not permitted.

The Main Examination centres include Chennai and several district centres. Paper II of the Group II Main Examination will be conducted at Chennai, while the common Tamil paper and Group IIA Paper II are scheduled across the centres listed in the notification.
