CSIR Technician Recruitment 2026 –  43 Posts, Eligibility, Selection Process, Apply Online

The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has released Advertisement No. R&A/01/2026 for recruitment to the post of Technician (1), Group II (1) on a direct recruitment basis. A total of 43 Technician vacancies are available across different technical trades. The posts are classified as Group-C and carry Pay Matrix Level-2 with a pay scale of ₹19,900–₹63,200. The upper age limit is 28 years, subject to applicable relaxations.

3. 10th/SSC with Science subjects and minimum 55% marks plus three years of relevant work experience in the specified trade in a Ministry, Department, Organization, PSU or Autonomous Body under the Central/State/UT Government, wherever prescribed.

For example, candidates applying for COPA must have the relevant COPA ITI/National or State Trade Certificate, or the prescribed apprenticeship/work experience. Similar trade-specific requirements apply to DTPO, CH&NM, MLT, Draughtsman, Instrument Mechanic, LACP and Interior Designer posts.

Candidates should not assume that possession of a higher qualification automatically makes them eligible. The advertisement specifically states that the prescribed essential qualification is compulsory and must be in the relevant trade/area.

Age Limit

The maximum age limit for the Technician post is 28 years as on 17 September 2026. Age relaxation is available to eligible categories according to CSIR/Government of India rules.

Selection Process

The CSIR Technician Recruitment 2026 selection process consists of several stages.

1. Application Screening

All applications received within the prescribed period will first be examined by a Screening Committee. The committee will shortlist candidates according to its screening criteria. Merely possessing the minimum qualification does not guarantee a call for the next stage.

2. Trade Test

Shortlisted candidates will be called for a Trade Test related to their respective trade. The Trade Test is qualifying in nature.

3. Competitive Written Examination

Candidates who qualify in the Trade Test will appear for the competitive written examination consisting of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III.

Paper-II and Paper-III will be evaluated only for candidates who obtain the prescribed threshold marks in Paper-I. The final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in Paper-II and Paper-III.

CSIR Technician Exam Pattern 2026

The written examination will be an OMR-based or Computer-Based Objective Multiple Choice Examination. Questions will generally be available in English and Hindi, except English Language questions.

The examination standard is SSC + ITI / XII Standard, with 150 questions and a total duration of 2 hours 30 minutes.

Paper-I covers areas such as General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Problem Solving and Situational Judgement. The Trade Test and detailed Paper-III syllabus will be notified by CSIR on its official website.

Salary and Benefits

The selected candidates will be appointed in Pay Matrix Level-2, with a basic pay scale of ₹19,900–₹63,200. In addition to basic pay, applicable allowances such as HRA and travelling allowance are available according to Central Government/CSIR rules.
