IIT BHU Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 55 Various Posts

Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, has released Advertisement No. 03/2026-27 for recruitment to various posts under the Administrative, Technical, Library, Engineering and Rajbhasha cadres. IIT (BHU) is an Institute of National Importance established under an Act of Parliament and invites applications from eligible Indian citizens for these positions.

A total of 55 vacancies are available for posts including Junior Superintendent, Junior Technician in different groups, Junior Library Assistant, Assistant Engineer, Junior Engineer and Junior Translation Officer. The online application process will be conducted through the SAMARTH Portal.

The online application window starts on 25 August 2026 and the last date to submit the application is 24 September 2026 up to 05:00 PM. Candidates should note that submitting the online form is not the only requirement. After successful online submission, candidates must also send the printout of the submitted application along with relevant supporting documents by Speed Post to the Registrar, IIT (BHU), Varanasi.

The recruitment notification contains vacancies across five major cadres. The detailed post-wise vacancy information is given below.

The vacancy table on page 1 of the notification also provides category-wise reservation details. For example, Junior Superintendent has 21 vacancies comprising UR-10, OBC-5, SC-3, ST-1 and EWS-2. The notification also mentions PwBD reservation against specified seats.

Educational Qualification and Eligibility

The eligibility requirements differ according to the post. Candidates should carefully check the qualification and experience requirements for the particular post code before submitting the application.

Junior Superintendent – Post Code 26118

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with at least 55% marks from a recognized university. In addition, candidates need either three years of relevant experience in Level 5 or equivalent, or eight years of relevant experience in Level 3 or above in the specified government, autonomous body, PSU or research organization categories.

Proficiency in computer office applications such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is mandatory. A higher degree or relevant PG Diploma may be desirable.

Junior Technician – Group I

For Post Code 26119, candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Chemistry or Physics as one of the subjects, with at least 55% marks. Computer application proficiency is also required.

Junior Technician – Group II

For Post Code 26120, candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Ceramic or Materials Science with at least 55% marks.

Alternatively, candidates may possess a three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline after 10+2 with at least 55% marks and one year of relevant experience.

Junior Technician – Group III

For Post Code 26121, the required branches are Electrical or Electronics. Candidates may have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with at least 55% marks or a three-year relevant Diploma after 10+2 with at least 55% marks and one year of relevant experience.

Junior Technician – Group IV

For Post Code 26122, eligible branches include Civil, Mining, Architecture, Planning and Design. Candidates should possess the prescribed engineering degree/B.Arch. with 55% marks, or the specified three-year Diploma with 55% marks plus one year of relevant experience.

Junior Technician – Group V

For Post Code 26123, candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent in Computer Science/Information Technology with 55% marks, or a three-year Diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology with 55% marks and one year of relevant experience.

Junior Library Assistant

For Post Code 26124, candidates can qualify through a Bachelor’s Degree in Library & Information Science with 55% marks, or a Diploma in Library & Information Science with 55% marks along with a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline, or a two-year integrated M.Lib. & Information Science degree with 55% marks. Computer application experience in a reputed library is desirable.

Assistant Engineer

For Post Code 26125, candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil/Electrical Engineering. Bachelor’s Degree holders require at least five years of relevant post-qualification experience, while Diploma holders require at least eight years of relevant post-qualification experience at Level 6 or above.

Junior Engineer

For Post Code 26126, candidates should have B.E./B.Tech. in Civil with at least 55% marks and two years of relevant post-qualification experience.

Alternatively, candidates with a three-year Civil Engineering Diploma and 55% marks from a government-recognized polytechnic require three years of relevant post-qualification experience.

Junior Translation Officer

For Post Code 26127, candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Hindi along with three years of relevant translation experience involving English-to-Hindi and Hindi-to-English translation of technical and non-technical content in the specified organizations.

A recognized translation diploma/certificate, knowledge of Hindi application software and experience in translating technical and scientific documents are desirable.

Age Limit

The upper age limit varies by post. Junior Superintendent, Junior Engineer and Junior Translation Officer have an upper age limit of 35 years. Junior Technician posts have an upper age limit of 27 years, Junior Library Assistant is 30 years, and Assistant Engineer is 40 years. The age is calculated as on the last date of submission of the online application, i.e. 24 September 2026.

Age relaxation for eligible categories will be applicable according to Government of India norms.

Application Fee

The application fee depends on the group of the post.

The fee has to be paid online through the payment gateway using Internet Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card or UPI. The notification states that fees once paid will not be refunded.

Selection Process

The notification does not prescribe one identical selection method for every post. It states that shortlisted candidates may be called for stages such as Screening Test, Written Test, Presentation, Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview, as applicable.

The Institute will shortlist candidates based on qualifications, suitability, experience and other relevant criteria. Mere possession of the minimum eligibility does not guarantee a call for the selection process. The Institute may also apply more stringent shortlisting criteria and give preference to candidates having higher qualifications and merit.

Eligible candidates can follow the steps below to submit their application:

1. Visit the IIT (BHU) recruitment section and read Advertisement No. 03/2026-27 carefully.
2. Open the official SAMARTH application portal.
3. Complete the registration/application process with the required details.
4. Select the appropriate post and post code.
