Income Tax Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must satisfy the nationality, age, educational and sports eligibility requirements mentioned in the official notification.

Nationality

The applicant must be a Citizen of India.

Age Limit

The age will be calculated as on 01 July 2026.

The notification provides relaxation in the calculation of the age limit for eligible sportsperson candidates, including 5 years for UR/OBC candidates and 10 years for SC/ST candidates, subject to fulfilling the prescribed conditions and submitting the required certificates.

Educational Qualification

The required educational qualification must have been obtained on or before 01 July 2026. Qualifications obtained after this date will not be considered for this recruitment.

Sports Eligibility

This recruitment is specifically meant for eligible meritorious sportspersons. Candidates may be considered if they meet the prescribed sports achievement criteria.

Eligible categories include candidates who have:

• Represented a State or India in National or International competitions.
• Won medals in Junior National Championships.
• Won medals in eligible Khelo India competitions.
• Won medals in School Games Federation of India competitions.
• Represented a University in recognized Inter-University tournaments.
• Represented State School teams in recognized National School Games.

The notification also contains special provisions relating to Chess, including eligible achievements such as Grand Master, International Master and Chess Olympiad, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.

Income Tax Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

The selection process is based on the candidate’s sporting achievements and further evaluation stages.

The preference order generally gives priority to candidates with higher levels of sporting achievement. International representation receives the highest preference, followed by eligible performances at National Championships, University competitions, Khelo India events and National School Games.

The sporting achievements considered for evaluation must fall within the period from 01 January 2022 to 30 June 2026. Achievements before or after this period will not be considered for this recruitment.

The selection process includes the following stages:

1. Application Scrutiny

Applications will be checked for nationality, age, educational qualifications and eligible sporting achievements.

2. Shortlisting

Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on their best sporting performances during the prescribed evaluation period.

3. Document Verification

Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear before the Selection Committee for verification of documents and certificates. Candidates must bring their original documents.

4. Ground/Field Proficiency Test

Shortlisted candidates will undergo a Ground or Field Proficiency Test to evaluate their abilities in the respective sport or game.

5. Data Entry Skill Test for Tax Assistant

Candidates shortlisted for the Tax Assistant post must also qualify the Data Entry Skill Test at 8,000 key depressions per hour.

6. Final Merit Selection

The final selection will be made strictly on the basis of merit, considering the candidate’s eligible sporting performance and marks obtained in the Ground/Field Proficiency Test.
