The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has released the official notification for Combined Civil Services Examination – IV (Group IV Services). The recruitment notification is Advertisement No. 747 / Notification No. 11/2026, dated 06 October 2026. A total of 6,574 vacancies have been notified across various departments and services of the Tamil Nadu Government and associated organisations.

The recruitment includes posts such as Village Administrative Officer (VAO), Junior Assistant, Bill Collector, Revenue Assistant, Typist, Steno Typist, Personal Clerk, Junior Inspector, Laboratory Assistant, Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with Driving Licence.

Interested and eligible candidates must apply through the official TNPSC online application portal. The online application process starts on 06 October 2026 and the last date to submit the application is 05 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. The written examination is scheduled for 10 January 2027, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

The vacancies mentioned in the notification are tentative and may be modified before counselling. The department/unit-wise distribution of vacancies will be announced later. 

TNPSC Group 4 Vacancy 2026 – Post Wise Vacancy Details

The notification contains 46 post categories/post codes, with a total of 6,574 vacancies. The major post-wise details are given below. 

Note: The notification contains special footnotes relating to backlog vacancies, outstanding sportsperson vacancies and posting locations. For example, candidates selected for Sales Assistant may be posted in New Delhi, Kolkata or anywhere in Tamil Nadu, while selected candidates for Junior Assistant under Post Code 3788 should be ready for posting anywhere in India. 

TNPSC Group 4 Eligibility Criteria 2026

Age Limit

The age limit is calculated as on 01 July 2026. The minimum and maximum age vary according to the post and community/category.

For example, the notification specifies different age limits for VAO, Junior Assistant, Typist, Steno Typist, Executive Officer, Forest Watcher and Forest Guard posts. Certain reserved-category candidates may receive additional age concessions, and some posts have no maximum age limit subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification. 

For Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with Driving Licence, the notification specifies a minimum age of 21 years, with category-wise maximum age provisions. 

Candidates should therefore check the post-wise and community-wise age table in the official notification before applying.

Educational Qualification

The educational qualification differs according to the post.

For several Group 4 posts such as Junior Assistant, Bill Collector and certain other posts, candidates must possess the prescribed SSLC / Minimum General Educational Qualification. Some posts require graduation, B.Com., technical qualifications, typewriting, shorthand or computer qualifications.

• VAO: Minimum General Educational Qualification.
• Several Junior Assistant posts: SSLC or the specific qualification prescribed for the concerned organisation.

• Typist: SSLC plus prescribed Government Technical Examination in Typewriting.

• Laboratory Assistant: Higher Secondary with Science as prescribed.
• Sales Assistant: Degree, with preference for specified disciplines.
• Forest Guard with Driving Licence: Higher Secondary with specified science subjects plus driving licence, driving experience and other prescribed requirements. 

Candidates must possess the required qualification on the date of notification, i.e. 06 October 2026. 

Knowledge of Tamil

Candidates should possess adequate knowledge of Tamil on the date of notification. The notification recognises specified qualifications such as Tamil studied in SSLC/HSC/Degree, Tamil-medium study or passing the Second Class Language Test conducted by TNPSC. 

Candidates should upload supporting proof when called for certificate verification.

TNPSC Group 4 Exam Pattern 2026

The TNPSC Group 4 examination is a single-stage written examination. The merit/ranking list is prepared based on the marks secured in the written examination.

Examination Scheme

The examination duration is 3 hours and is conducted through OMR objective-type questions. Part B and Part C will be evaluated only if the candidate obtains the prescribed minimum qualifying marks in Part A. The minimum qualifying marks for Part A are 60 marks (40%). 

Candidates who are eligible for the specified exemption from the Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test may opt for General English at SSLC standard under the conditions mentioned in the notification. 

TNPSC Group 4 Selection Process 2026

The recruitment is based primarily on the marks obtained in the written examination, followed by certificate verification and counselling wherever applicable.

For Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with Driving Licence, candidates must undergo additional physical standards and endurance requirements. The endurance test consists of a 25 km walk for male candidates and a 16 km walk for female/third-gender candidates, to be completed within four hours. 

For tie-breaking, higher qualification, higher technical qualification where applicable, age and finally application number are considered in the order specified by TNPSC. 

Application Fee

Candidates are required to pay the prescribed examination fee unless they are eligible for fee exemption.

The OTR registration is valid for five years. OTR is not itself an application; candidates must separately submit the online application for this recruitment. 

The ₹100 examination fee can be paid online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI. Offline payment through Demand Draft or Postal Order is not accepted.

2. Complete One Time Registration (OTR) if you do not already have a valid OTR.
