About Permanent Lok Adalat

Permanent Lok Adalats are established under Section 22-B of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to handle disputes related to Public Utility Services. These include services such as:

• Transport services
• Postal services
• Telecommunication
• Electricity supply
• Water supply
• Insurance services
• Other notified public utility services

Permanent Lok Adalats have the authority to resolve disputes through conciliation and, if required, adjudication.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

1. Be a citizen of India.
2. Be a person having knowledge and adequate experience in any of the Public Utility Services as defined under Section 22-A of the Act.
3. Have sufficient knowledge of Marathi to speak, read, write and translate from Marathi into English and vice versa.

The ability to understand both Marathi and English is essential for functioning effectively in the quasi-judicial role.

Age Limit

As specified under terms and conditions:

• The applicant must not have attained 65 years of age on the date of publication of the advertisement.

Terms and Conditions of Appointment

• The Member shall hold office for a term of five years or until the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
• The applicant must not have any personal, financial or other interest that conflicts with duties of the Permanent Lok Adalat.
• A written undertaking declaring no conflict of interest is mandatory.
• After demitting office, the Member shall not associate with any organization that was party to proceedings before the Permanent Lok Adalat during his/her tenure for five years.
• The post is transferable within Maharashtra.
• No right to claim transfer to any specific place.

Remuneration

• Rs. 2,500 per sitting (Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred only).
• Conveyance allowance as per Government of India Notification No. G.S.R. 312 (E) dated 15 May 2025.
• Honorarium is governed by Government of Maharashtra, Law and Judiciary Department Resolution dated 19 January 2026.

This is a per-sitting remuneration model, not a fixed monthly salary.

Selection Process

The Selection Committee consists of:

• Hon’ble Executive Chairman, MSLSA
• Hon’ble Judges nominated by the Chief Justice, Bombay High Court
• Patron-in-Chief, MSLSA

Selection Method:

• Interview carries 20 marks.
• Minimum qualifying marks: 7.
• Final list subject to approval of Hon’ble Chief Justice, Bombay High Court.

Selection will be purely on merit.
