CSIR-IHBT Recruitment 2026 –  43 Project Positions, Walk-in Interview Dates, Eligibility, Salary & Application Details

CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur has released Advertisement No. 17/2026 for recruitment to various project-based positions under different research projects. The recruitment is being conducted through Walk-in Interviews for suitable candidates. The positions are purely temporary and will continue for the project duration or the specified tenure, whichever is earlier.

A total of 43 positions across 29 position codes are covered under this advertisement. The vacancies include Senior PAT, Project Associate PAT-I, Project Associate PAT-II and Project Assistant-I posts. Candidates with qualifications such as M.Sc., M.Tech., M.Pharm, B.Tech., B.E., Ph.D., ITI/SSC and other specified qualifications can apply for the relevant positions.

The interviews will be conducted at CSIR-IHBT, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, on different dates between 16 October 2026 and 27 October 2026.

CSIR-IHBT Eligibility Criteria

Educational qualification varies according to the position code.

For Senior PAT, candidates generally require an M.Sc. in relevant subjects such as Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Plant Sciences or Chemistry/M.Pharm, along with the prescribed research experience. Some Senior PAT positions also accept Ph.D. qualification with the required research experience.

For Project Associate PAT-I, the notification specifies qualifications including M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Biochemistry, Agriculture, Horticulture, Chemistry and other relevant disciplines depending upon the project.

Some PAT-I positions provide ₹31,000 + HRA to candidates who have qualified CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET, GATE or specified national-level examinations, while other eligible candidates receive ₹25,000 + HRA. 

For Project Associate PAT-II, the notification requires M.Sc. Life Sciences with specialization in Plant Sciences along with two years of relevant research experience for the specified position.

For Project Assistant-I, candidates require 10th plus ITI/SSC, with desirable experience depending on the position. 

Candidates should carefully check the qualification against the specific position code before attending the interview.

Age Limit

The maximum age limit is generally:

• Senior PAT: 40 years
• Project Associate PAT-I/PAT-II: 35 years
• Project Assistant-I: 35 years

The age is calculated as mentioned against the respective interview date.

Age relaxation is available as per the notification. SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates are eligible for 5 years relaxation, while OBC candidates are eligible for 3 years relaxation, subject to applicable Government of India instructions. 

Salary / Stipend

The monthly consolidated stipend varies according to the position and eligibility.

• Senior PAT: ₹42,000 + HRA
• Project Associate PAT-I: ₹25,000 + HRA
• Eligible NET/GATE/national-level qualified PAT-I candidates: ₹31,000 + HRA
• Project Associate PAT-II: ₹28,000 + HRA
• Project Assistant-I: ₹18,000 + HRA

For certain positions, the notification specifies 10% HRA along with the applicable monthly amount.

Selection Process

The selection process is primarily based on the Walk-in Interview.

However, CSIR-IHBT reserves the right to adopt its own selection criteria. The Selection Committee may conduct:

1. Direct Interview, or
2. Objective Test based on Multiple Choice Questions followed by an interview on the same day.

The number of candidates finally selected may differ from the advertised number depending on candidate performance. 

Candidates should therefore prepare both subject-related technical questions and basic research/project-related questions relevant to the position for which they are appearing.

Candidates should reach the venue well before 10:00 AM, as late reporting candidates will not be permitted to attend the interview.
