Experience, wherever prescribed, must generally have been obtained after completion of the requisite educational qualification; internship or training during the qualification does not count as the prescribed experience.
SSC JE 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess the prescribed qualification for the post applied for on or before the closing date of the online application.
The recruitment includes Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Telecom and Scientific Assistant streams.
For example:
- JE Civil: Civil Engineering degree/diploma, with experience where specifically prescribed.
- JE Electrical: Electrical Engineering degree/diploma depending upon the organisation.

Age Limit
The crucial date for age calculation is 01 August 2026.
For posts with an upper age limit of 30 years, the candidate must have been born between 02 August 1996 and 01 August 2008.
For posts with an upper age limit of 32 years, the candidate must have been born between 02 August 1994 and 01 August 2008.

SSC JE 2026 Application Fee
The application fee is ₹100.
However, the following candidates are exempted from payment of the application fee:
- Women candidates
- Scheduled Caste (SC)
- Scheduled Tribe (ST)
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
- Ex-Servicemen (ESM)
The fee can be paid through online modes such as BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay Debit Card. The last date for fee payment is 23 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM.
SSC JE 2026 Selection Process
The SSC JE 2026 selection process consists of:

Paper-I
Paper-I is a Computer Based Examination and contains:

Paper-II is also a Computer Based Examination.

Eligible candidates answer the engineering/subject paper corresponding to the qualification and subject selected in the application.
Only the normalized marks of Paper-II are used for determining final merit.
Negative Marking
Candidates should be particularly careful while attempting the examination.
- Paper-I: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer.
- Paper-II: 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer.
Both papers consist of objective multiple-choice questions and are conducted in Hindi and English.
The examination system will also provide a scientific calculator on the computer screen, and the required IS 456:2000/Steam Tables, where applicable, will be available electronically during the examination. Physical calculators or physical tables are not permitted inside the exam lab.

How to Apply for SSC JE 2026
Candidates have to apply online only through the SSC website or the mySSC mobile application.
Step 1 – One-Time Registration
Candidates who have not previously completed OTR on the new SSC website must first complete One-Time Registration.
The old OTR generated on ssc.nic.in will not function on the new SSC website.
Step 2 – Login and Apply
After completing OTR:
- Visit the SSC website.
- Login using the registered credentials.
- Select Junior Engineer Examination, 2026.
- Fill in personal and educational details.
- Select the appropriate engineering subject/stream.
- Select examination centres.
- Upload/complete the required photograph and signature requirements.
- Check the application preview carefully.
- Pay the applicable fee.
- Submit the application.
- Save/print the submitted application for future reference.
SSC allows candidates to opt for Aadhaar-Based Authentication. Candidates using Aadhaar authentication receive certain relaxations concerning photograph/signature verification and examination entry requirements.
The application module captures a real-time photograph. Candidates should use a plain background, good lighting, eye-level camera positioning and a full-frontal view without cap, mask or spectacles. The signature must be uploaded in JPEG format, with the notification specifying 10–20 KB and approximately 6 cm × 2 cm dimensions.
SSC JE 2026 Application Correction
SSC has provided a correction window from:
28 September 2026 to 30 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM.
A candidate can correct and resubmit the application up to two times.

At Document Verification, candidates will be required to produce original documents and photocopies. The notification specifically lists matriculation certificate, educational qualification certificate, experience certificate, category certificate, disability certificate and relevant ESM/age-relaxation documents among the required documents.
SSC JE 2026 Examination Centre & Admit Card
Candidates can choose three examination centres in the same region, in order of preference. Once selected, a request for change of examination centre will not ordinarily be considered.
Admit cards will be made available online. SSC will not send admission certificates by post or email. Candidates must download the Admission Certificate from the Commission’s website.
Candidates who have not undergone Aadhaar-Based Authentication must generally report two hours before the scheduled examination, carrying the Admission Certificate, two recent passport-size colour photographs and an original valid photo ID containing the required date-of-birth details.
Document Verification and Final Selection
Document Verification will be conducted by the concerned User Department after declaration of the final result.
SSC recommends candidates based on the vacancies reported by the concerned departments. Candidates must produce their original educational, experience and category documents when called for verification. If any claim made in the application cannot be supported by valid documents, candidature may be cancelled.
An important point for applicants is post preference. Candidates will be asked to submit preferences for posts/departments. Once submitted, the preference is treated as final and irreversible. A candidate who fails to submit post preferences within the prescribed period will not be considered for posts in the final result.
Final allocation is based on Paper-II performance and post/organisation preferences, subject to eligibility and other post-specific requirements.
