Selection Process
The selection procedure depends on the post.
Selection for Technical Assistant and Other Skill-Based Posts
For Post Nos. 813, 814, 815, 816 and 817, the selection process consists of:
- Written Test
- Skill Test
The written examination will have 80 multiple-choice questions, with one mark for every correct answer. The examination duration is 90 minutes, and 0.33 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. The syllabus is curriculum-based and is designed to test both theoretical and practical knowledge.
Candidates will be shortlisted for the Skill Test based on written-test performance in a 1:5 ratio, with a minimum of 10 candidates. The Skill Test is conducted on a Go/No-Go basis, meaning the marks obtained in the Skill Test are not added to the final merit. Final selection is based on written-test marks among candidates who qualify the Skill Test. In case of a tie, the academic marks of the prescribed qualification will act as the tie-breaker.
The minimum written-test qualifying marks are 32/80 for UR candidates and 24/80 for reserved candidates where the post is reserved. The Skill Test qualifying standard is 50/100 for UR candidates and 40/100 for reserved candidates.
Fireman ‘A’ Selection Process
For Fireman ‘A’, the selection process consists of:
- Written Test
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
Applicants must submit the prescribed Preliminary Medical Examination (PME) Certificate in the required format. It has to be issued by a Government Medical Officer not below the rank of Assistant Civil Surgeon or equivalent in Allopathy.
The Fireman written test contains 80 objective questions, carries 80 marks, lasts 120 minutes, and has 0.25 negative marking for every wrong answer. The syllabus includes basic chemistry related to flammable liquids and gases, LPG properties, pressure-volume-temperature relationships, basic geometry, volumes of common solids, properties of gases, electrical safety, water properties and general knowledge.
Candidates meeting the prescribed PME standards are shortlisted for PET in a maximum 1:50 ratio based on vacancies. Candidates must first qualify Stage-I PET and then proceed to Stage-II PET. PET is conducted on a Go/No-Go basis. Failure in any event results in disqualification from the remaining PET events.
According to Annexure-C, the Fireman PET includes events such as 1500 metre/800 metre running, rope climbing, carrying a human dummy, long jump and 100 metre running, with qualifying standards varying according to age and gender categories.
Candidates qualifying both stages of PET undergo DME. The final panel is prepared in the order of written-test marks from candidates who qualify the DME. Only one opportunity is provided for DME.
