RRB JE Recruitment 2026 Eligibility
Candidates should satisfy the prescribed age, educational qualification and medical standards before submitting the application. The qualification must already have been obtained by the closing date of the online application. Candidates waiting for the final result of the required qualification are not eligible.
Age Limit
The age will be calculated as on 1 January 2027.

- Maximum Age: 33 Years
The basic age group is 18–33 years. The notification also provides relaxation for eligible reserved and special categories.

Age relaxation is subject to the conditions and certificates prescribed in the CEN. Relaxations are not cumulative; where a candidate is eligible for more than one relaxation, the applicable maximum relaxation is considered.
Educational Qualification
The educational qualification differs according to the post and examination group.
For several Junior Engineer posts, candidates need a three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline or an eligible combination of basic engineering streams from a recognized institution. For example, the Electrical JE group includes Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering qualifications for specified posts.
For Civil-related JE posts, the notification includes a three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering, and for specified posts, a three-year B.Sc. in Civil Engineering is also mentioned.
For Mechanical and allied posts, eligible disciplines include Mechanical, Production, Automobile, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Industrial, Machining, Tools and Die Making, Instrumentation and Control and other specified allied streams.
For Depot Material Superintendent, the notification specifically states that the educational qualification is a three-year Diploma in Engineering, and candidates with a three-year Diploma in any engineering discipline can apply for the DMS posts as applicable.
Engineering Exam Groups
The notification maps qualifications into four major technical examination groups:
- Mechanical & Allied Engineering
- Electrical & Allied Engineering
- Electronics & Allied Engineering
- Civil & Allied Engineering
The Electronics group includes disciplines such as Electronics, Instrumentation and Control, Communication, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Information Technology, while Civil qualifications are mapped to the Civil & Allied Engineering group.
RRB JE Recruitment Selection Process
The selection process consists of computer-based examinations followed by document verification and medical examination.
Stage 1 – CBT
The first-stage CBT is a screening examination. It consists of 100 questions for 100 marks and is conducted for 90 minutes.

There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer. The minimum qualifying percentages are 40% for UR/EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST candidates, subject to the provisions for PwBD candidates.
Stage 2 – CBT
Candidates are shortlisted for the second-stage CBT based on normalized marks obtained in CBT-I. Normally, candidates up to 15 times the community-wise vacancies are shortlisted, although Railways reserves the right to modify this number where necessary.
The second-stage CBT consists of 150 questions for 150 marks and is conducted for 120 minutes.

The technical section carries the highest weightage with 100 questions and 100 marks. There is again negative marking of 1/3 mark for each wrong answer.
Document Verification
Candidates who qualify in the required examination stages and are shortlisted will be called for Document Verification (DV). Original educational, age, category and other supporting documents will be checked.
Candidates claiming SC, ST, OBC-NCL or EWS benefits must produce the required certificates in the prescribed format.
Medical Examination
Candidates must pass the medical fitness requirements prescribed for the opted post. Medical standards differ according to the post, with standards such as A-3, B-1, B-2 and C-1 appearing in the post parameters.
A candidate who fails to meet the required medical standard for the opted post will not be given an alternative appointment for another post.
RRB JE Application Fee
The application fee is category-specific.

For candidates paying ₹500, ₹400 is refundable after appearing in the first-stage CBT, after applicable bank charges. For candidates paying ₹250, the ₹250 fee is refundable after appearing in CBT-I, subject to the notification conditions.
Payment is accepted through online modes such as internet banking, debit card, credit card and UPI.
How to Apply for RRB JE Recruitment 2026
Eligible candidates can apply online through the official RRB websites.
Step 1: Create an Account
Candidates must first create an account for CEN 04/2026. Those who already created an account during an earlier RRB CEN can use the existing credentials. A valid personal mobile number and active email ID are required.
Step 2: Complete Identity Authentication
Candidates are advised to authenticate their identity through Aadhaar or DigiLocker. This can make verification at later stages smoother.
Step 3: Fill the Application Form
Enter personal details, educational qualifications, category information, preferred RRB and post/zone preferences carefully.
Candidates can select only one RRB. Multiple applications to different RRBs or the same RRB can lead to rejection and debarment.
Step 4: Capture Live Photograph
A pre-existing photograph does not have to be uploaded. The application system captures a live photograph through a webcam or mobile front camera. Candidates should follow the prescribed instructions while capturing it.
Step 5: Upload Signature
The candidate’s scanned signature must be uploaded in the prescribed JPG/JPEG format. The notification specifies a file size of 30 KB to 49 KB, minimum dimensions of 140 × 60 pixels, black ink on white paper and running handwriting.
Step 6: Pay the Application Fee
Pay the applicable examination fee online and wait for payment confirmation through SMS/email.
Step 7: Submit and Save
After final submission, candidates should save or print the completed application and payment confirmation for future reference.
