SSC CPO 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should carefully check the eligibility conditions before submitting the online application.
Nationality
A candidate must be:
- A citizen of India; or
- A subject of Nepal; or
- A subject of Bhutan.
Candidates from Nepal or Bhutan requiring a certificate of eligibility must obtain the required certificate from the Government of India before appointment.
Age Limit
The age is calculated as on 01 August 2026.
For all posts except SI Fire in CISF, the age limit is 20 to 25 years. Candidates should have been born between 02 August 2001 and 01 August 2006.
For SI Fire in CISF, the age limit is 18 to 30 years, and candidates should have been born between 02 August 1996 and 01 August 2008.

Educational Qualification
SI in Delhi Police and SI GD in CAPFs
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.
Candidates who are appearing for their Bachelor’s degree examination can also apply, but they must acquire the required qualification on or before the closing date of applications.
SI Fire in CISF
Candidates must have either:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, or
- Matriculation/equivalent plus a three-year diploma in specified engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Automobile, Chemical, Mining, Aeronautical or Telecommunication Engineering.
The notification also mentions that higher qualifications such as B.Tech/M.Tech in relevant fields may be accepted subject to the prescribed basic qualification requirements.
Driving Licence Requirement
For male candidates applying for SI in Delhi Police, a valid driving licence for LMV (Motorcycle and Car) is required on the date of the Physical Endurance and Measurement Tests.
Candidates without the required driving licence can still be eligible for SI posts in CAPFs.
SSC CPO 2026 Selection Process
The SSC CPO selection process consists of the following stages:
Paper-I → PST/PET → Paper-II → Medical Examination → Document Verification → Final Selection
The PST/PET and medical examination are qualifying stages, while Paper-I and Paper-II play an important role in the merit process.
Stage 1 – Paper-I
Paper-I is a Computer Based Examination consisting of four sections:

Candidates shortlisted through Paper-I have to appear for the Physical Standard Test and Physical Endurance Test.

PST/PET does not carry marks and is qualifying/elimination in nature. Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET but must fulfil the prescribed PST and other requirements.

For general male candidates, the chest requirement is 80 cm unexpanded and 85 cm expanded. Certain categories receive prescribed relaxation.
Stage 3 – Paper-II

Paper-II has a duration of 2 hours in total, with sectional timing for the first three parts as specified in the notification. There is 0.50 mark negative marking for each wrong answer.
Stage 4 – Medical Examination
Candidates qualifying in Paper-II are called for Detailed Medical Examination. Candidates declared unfit may undergo Review Medical Examination according to the prescribed procedure.
The notification specifies medical requirements including prescribed eyesight standards and states that candidates should not have conditions such as knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins or squint eyes.
Stage 5 – Document Verification
Document Verification is conducted by the CAPFs before declaration of the final result, preferably along with the DME/RME stage.
Final Selection
Final selection and allocation of Post/Force are based on Paper-II performance, including applicable NCC bonus marks, and the post/force preferences submitted by the candidate. Post preferences are final and irreversible.
NCC Bonus Marks
NCC certificate holders can receive bonus marks in both Paper-I and Paper-II:
